Horsetooth Area Visitor Information Center

The Architects' Studio designed the 8,500 SF Horsetooth Area Information Center to serve as the “front door” to one of the busiest recreational reservoirs in Colorado. The building includes a public lobby that welcomes visitors with a soaring volume and glass walls that afford a stunning view of the reservoir beyond. A staffed information desk and numerous interpretive and educational exhibits about the history of the reservoir and it’s many recreational resources fill the lobby. Visitors can book a cabin or camp site, or collect information about area water levels, fishing, boating, camping and hiking.

A large meeting room comfortably accommodates up to 60 people, and features a full kitchen, state of the art audio visual systems and a wall of glazed doors that open onto a cantilevered terrace oriented to afford sweeping views of the reservoir and surrounding resources. As a result, the facility is one of the most sought after meeting venues in Larimer County.

The building also serves as the administrative headquarters for the Horsetooth Area park rangers and staff, with sufficient flexibility to accommodate both full time staff and fluctuating seasonal staffing needs. Bunkered into the hillside, the lower level of the building includes a locker room, shower, ample storage, vault, training room, and walkout access to a patrol boat dock for staff.

The project was the culmination of an intensive planning, programming and visioning process led by The Architects’ Studio that studied multiple building configurations and siting options, and included a public outreach and neighborhood engagement effort.
