Galvanize Fort Collins

242 Linden Street | Fort Collins | CO

The Architects’ Studio led the design of an extensive reconstruction of the front building facade at 242 Linden Street, as part of a larger effort to re-purpose a 100 year old building into the new home for Galvanize, an environment for start-ups and companies building tech-enabled innovations. The building provides all of the amenities of a co-working space - plus learning opportunities, resources, and access to the network a growing startup needs.

The existing building facade was not original to the building and over many years of renovations had become incompatible with the adjacent historic context. Working closely with the building owner, Landmarks Preservation Commission and Downtown Development Authority, we re-imagined a contemporary facade that was still compatible with the Old Town Historic District.

The new facade design incorporates design elements and quality materials that are evocative of, and compatible with historically significant contributing properties in the district without invoking direct reproduction or mimicry. Instead, compatibility was achieved through appropriate alignment, scale, proportion, fenestration pattern, architectural character and details.

The completed Project contributes positively to the visual character of the Old Town Historic District while meeting the needs of a new era of young, innovative tenants and users.
