The Architects' Studio designed the 53,500 sqaure foot OtterBox Headquarters to provide a functional yet inspiring workplace for approximately 300 employees; an ever growing team of “Otters”. OtterBox CEO and Founder Curt Richardson and OtterCares President Nancy Richardson were determined to keep the burgeoning company near its Old Town roots while creating a new workplace reflective of the playful, creative and hard-working atmosphere that has defined OtterBox.

The building acknowledges its context of historical significance, varying scale and residential-commercial mix of the neighborhood, while still providing a unique identity for OtterBox that is an embodiment of their company culture. The use of brick and stone elements consistent with neighborhood patterns is juxtaposed with more contemporary curved and angled curtainwall elements that speak to OtterBox’s place as an innovator in a dynamic, technology driven marketplace.
As a large, primary employer redevoping a constrained site in a downtown neighborhood, OtterBox and The Architects' Studio carefully considered the needs of the rapidly growing company, the needs of the neighborhood and needs of this progressive community in regards to responsible building practices. The team was able to address all of these issues with the result of a showpiece corporate facililty in Fort Collins.
The success OtterBox has experienced over the last decade has led to one major growing pain - the need for additional space for its growing army of Otters. A major element of OtterBox success comes from its company culture, and this project met the challenge of creating a building that embodies OtterBox culture while bringing a majority of Otters under one roof. Intensive planning went into creating an environment in which Otters could collaborate and thrive, professionally as well as personally.
